Sunday train service restored at Cooksbridge after 55 years

Some great news from Cooksbridge Station Partnership!

This Sunday 17th May will see the restoration by Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) of an hourly Sunday train service at Cooksbridge after an interval of 55 years. This will complete the restoration of a full 7 days per week train service at Cooksbridge which has long been an aspiration of our parish and a key objective of our Neighbourhood Plan. Sunday Up services will depart at 26 minutes past the hour and Down services will depart at 45 minutes past the hour. The timetable for Mondays to Saturdays is based on the new Saturday timetable, with Up services departing at 3 minutes past the hour and Down services departing at 21 minutes past the hour.

Trains will now be generally formed of eight cars and will be accommodated on the newly extended Up platform without blocking the A275 road and requiring the barriers to stay down. There will now be no attachment and detachment at Haywards Heath leading to some savings in journey time.

The introduction of this new train service at Cooksbridge is part of the phased introduction by GTR of the summer 2020 timetable due to the impacts of Covid-19. The rail industry is committed to providing a train service that supports key workers to be able to get to work.

The timetable is now available on the National Rail journey planner: https://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/planjourney/search

While the Government advice remains that anyone who can should continue to work entirely from home, there are people who will need to go to their place of work. The Government has published guidance for people who cannot work from home and must use public transport. This guidance can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-safer- travel-guidance-for-passengers

This is a temporary timetable designed to provide more space on board for key workers. As a result, and because of the impact of coronavirus, the rail industry will not introduce the full Summer timetable change on Sunday 17th May 2020 as originally planned, however it is the intention, that when it is the right time to introduce more train services, GTR will scale- up gradually into the full Summer 2020 timetable.
